SpaceX is hiring a Materials Engineer for Vehicle Refurbishment to assess and provide materials engineering solutions for vehicle reusability efforts. You'll work with polymeric processes, structural epoxy adhesives, and corrosion assessment. This role requires familiarity with various materials and engineering standards.
You have a strong background in materials engineering, particularly in the context of vehicle refurbishment and reusability. Your experience includes working with polymeric processes and structural epoxy adhesives, and you are knowledgeable about organic and inorganic paint systems. You understand corrosion assessment and prevention on metallic structures, and you have hands-on experience with composite system processing. You are familiar with regulatory requirements and have a track record of maintaining compliance with specifications from organizations such as NASA and OSHA.
You possess excellent analytical skills, allowing you to investigate and analyze integrated vehicle parts and coatings effectively. Your ability to perform failure investigations and apply corrosion knowledge is essential for assessing and repairing vehicle components. You are detail-oriented and capable of performing basic characterization techniques such as SEM, EDS, and FTIR for material identification.
Experience with advanced materials and coatings in aerospace applications is a plus. Familiarity with additional engineering standards and practices will enhance your ability to contribute to the team. You are a collaborative team player who enjoys working with engineers, subject matter experts, and technicians to solve complex material and processing challenges.
In this role, you will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to address materials engineering challenges related to SpaceX's vehicle reusability efforts. You will maintain a working knowledge of regulatory requirements and perform associated tasks to ensure compliance with SpaceX and external specifications. Your responsibilities will include investigating and analyzing integrated vehicle parts, as well as assessing and preventing corrosion on metallic structures. You will apply your expertise to perform predictive and preventive maintenance tasks on assigned vehicle components.
You will conduct failure investigations to identify root causes and recommend solutions to enhance vehicle performance and longevity. Your role will also involve characterizing materials using techniques such as SEM, EDS, and FTIR, serving as the first line of defense for material identification. You will work closely with other engineers and technicians to develop innovative materials engineering solutions that support SpaceX's mission of enabling human life on Mars.
