Who you are

You have 5+ years of backend engineering experience, particularly in building production systems that can handle high traffic and complex transactions. Your expertise in programming languages such as Go, Java, Python, or C++ allows you to tackle unique engineering challenges effectively. You understand the importance of code health, testing, and maintainability, and you actively drive the adoption of best practices within your team. Your experience includes mentoring junior engineers, guiding them on technical designs and coding best practices, which fosters a collaborative and growth-oriented environment.

You are well-versed in designing scalable and secure systems, especially in contexts where accuracy is paramount, such as money-movement systems. What you'll do

As a Senior Backend Engineer on the Gifting team, you will be responsible for building user-facing Gifting products on the Uber platform. Your role will involve designing systems that are not only scalable but also secure and compliant across global markets. You will tackle engineering challenges related to extreme seasonality and high-concurrency traffic, ensuring that the systems you build can handle massive spikes during holidays like Christmas and Valentine's Day.

You will collaborate closely with product, design, and business teams to translate new product ideas into scalable solutions. Your contributions will include driving the adoption of best practices in code health, testing, and maintainability, which are crucial for the reliability of the systems you develop. You will play an active role in the team's technical design choices, participate in code reviews, and contribute to documentation that supports the team's objectives.

Mentoring and guiding junior engineers will be a key part of your responsibilities, as you help them navigate technical designs and coding best practices. Your leadership will foster a culture of learning and collaboration within the team, ensuring that everyone is aligned with the team's goals and standards.
