Microsoft is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to work on Core OS and Windows systems. You'll focus on networking for virtual machines and contribute to the software fabric that powers Azure and Windows. This role requires expertise in Windows and networking technologies.
You have 5+ years of experience in software engineering, particularly in developing operating systems or core software components. Your background includes a strong understanding of networking principles and their application in virtualized environments. You are comfortable working with Windows and have experience with Linux systems, particularly in the context of the Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL). You possess the ability to learn quickly and lead others in technical discussions, fostering a collaborative environment.
Your expertise extends to networking for virtual machines, including software network switching and routing network packet frames to VM instances. You understand the capabilities provided by advanced server devices and how they interact with virtual machines. You are detail-oriented and have a passion for building high-quality, efficient systems software that meets the demands of modern computing.
Experience with Azure or cloud computing environments is a plus, as is familiarity with the challenges of building scalable systems. You have a proactive approach to problem-solving and enjoy tackling complex engineering challenges. Your communication skills allow you to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams, ensuring that all aspects of the software development lifecycle are addressed.
In this role, you will be part of a team responsible for the operating systems that power Azure and Microsoft's Linux OS. You will work on critical software components that ensure the reliability and efficiency of virtualized computing environments. Your responsibilities will include designing and implementing networking solutions for virtual machines, optimizing performance, and ensuring data flow integrity.
You will collaborate with other engineers to enhance the Windows operating system and contribute to the development of features that support Azure's cloud services.
