Databricks is hiring a Staff Software Engineer to lead the development of core platforms that enhance user experiences. You'll work with technologies like Java, Python, and AWS to build scalable infrastructure. This role requires strong technical leadership and experience in platform engineering.
You have 5+ years of experience in software engineering, with a strong focus on building scalable and reliable systems. Your technical expertise includes proficiency in Java and Python, and you have a solid understanding of cloud infrastructure, particularly AWS. You are adept at working with big data technologies, such as Apache Spark, and have experience with container orchestration using Kubernetes. You thrive in collaborative environments and have a track record of driving technical initiatives that align with business goals.
You possess excellent problem-solving skills and can navigate complex technical challenges with ease. Your experience includes designing and implementing platform solutions that support a variety of use cases, including AI and data analytics. You are a strong communicator, able to articulate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, and you enjoy mentoring junior engineers to help them grow in their careers.
Experience with additional programming languages such as Scala or Go would be a plus. Familiarity with CI/CD practices and tools is also desirable, as is a background in working with distributed systems and microservices architecture.
In this role, you will take complete ownership of multiple platforms that are critical to Databricks' growth. You will define and execute on key dimensions such as scalability, platformization, and reliability. Your responsibilities will include designing abstractions that can support a wide range of current and emerging use cases, particularly in the realm of AI. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to build consensus and ensure that the infrastructure you develop meets the needs of various user experiences.
You will lead efforts to redesign existing systems to accommodate the next stage of growth for Databricks. This includes evaluating trade-offs in design decisions and implementing solutions that enhance performance and reliability. You will also be involved in setting technical direction and standards for the engineering team, ensuring that best practices are followed throughout the development process.
Your role will require you to stay hands-on with coding while also providing technical leadership and guidance to your team. You will participate in code reviews, contribute to architectural discussions, and help shape the future of Databricks' core platforms. You will work closely with product managers and other stakeholders to align engineering efforts with business objectives, ensuring that the solutions you develop deliver maximum value to customers.
