Software Engineer, Infrastructure (8+ YOE)

Who you are

You have 8+ years of backend engineering experience, particularly in building scalable production systems. You’ve owned services from design through deployment and have a wealth of experience in debugging complex distributed systems issues. Your deep expertise in Java and Spring allows you to ship high-throughput APIs that handle millions of requests, and you have strong opinions on service architecture, dependency injection, and testing strategies. You are familiar with Kubernetes and have experience managing containerized applications, ensuring they run smoothly in production environments. Your knowledge of AWS services enables you to leverage cloud infrastructure effectively, optimizing performance and cost. You understand the importance of a great developer experience and are passionate about building systems that are not only functional but also enjoyable for developers to work with. You thrive in collaborative environments and enjoy mentoring junior engineers, sharing your knowledge and helping them grow.

Desirable

Experience with database technologies such as PostgreSQL is a plus, as is familiarity with Docker for containerization. You may also have experience with CI/CD practices and tools, which are essential for maintaining a robust deployment pipeline. If you have worked on projects involving AI services or have a background in disaster recovery strategies, that would be advantageous. What you'll do

In this role, you will primarily work on the Base Infrastructure team, focusing on building replication systems to support zero downtime failovers. You will optimize performance and memory usage while ensuring that the systems can scale as Airtable grows. Your contributions will have an org-wide impact on strategy and execution, as you collaborate with other teams to enhance the overall infrastructure. You will be involved in overhauling the network stack and service discovery, simplifying service setup and strengthening security measures. Additionally, you will help build custom Kubernetes operators to reliably manage critical workloads, ensuring that the compute platform is robust and efficient. You will also play a key role in implementing region-level disaster recovery strategies, ensuring that Airtable's services remain available and resilient.
