We're seeking a Software Development Manager to lead the development of our next-generation global grocery Point of Sale systems that will process transactions across our retail network. We have an opportunity to build the next generation grocery point of sale and set new standards for customer experience in Whole Foods Market and Amazon Fresh banner stores. This role combines technical leadership with people management to drive innovation and deliver exceptional results for our customers.

Key Responsibilities:
• Build and develop a high-performance software team through hiring, mentoring, and growing talent
• Lead development of highly scalable, high-availability POS systems and services
• Drive end-to-end project delivery by translating business requirements into technical solutions
• Champion customer-centric approach through feedback analysis and product optimization
• Develop and execute long-term technical strategies aligned with business objectives
• Partner with cross-functional teams and represent the team in strategic discussions
• Ensure operational excellence through system monitoring and quality control
• Contribute to engineering culture through mentorship and knowledge sharing

A day in the life - This leader will:
• Work with senior leaders in Worldwide Grocery Technology to define product strategy and roadmap
• Lead high-quality execution of software products against project plans and delivery commitments; architect and develop the best technical designs for extensibility, reliability, and scalability
• Build and develop a high-performance software development organization by hiring, mentoring and growing a best-in-class team
• Own all operational metrics and support
• Work directly with development teams in Austin, Seattle, and Bangalore on shared projects and dependent deliverables

Basic Qualifications:
• 3+ years of engineering team management experience
• 7+ years of engineering experience
• Strong knowledge of full software development lifecycle
• Experience working with product/program management teams
• Experience in systems design and architecture

Preferred Qualifications:
• Strong communication skills with ability to interact with users, technical teams, and senior leadership
• Experience in recruiting, hiring, and mentoring software engineers
• Proven track record in building and maintaining high-performing engineering teams
This role requires a customer-obsessed mindset and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment where development cycles are measured in weeks, not years.

- 3+ years of engineering team management experience
- 7+ years of engineering experience
- 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams
- Experience designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
