Senior Backend Engineer - Commerce

Who you are

You have 5+ years of backend engineering experience building production systems at scale — you've owned services from design through deployment and have tackled complex challenges in distributed systems. Your expertise includes backend API services and relational databases, and you thrive on solving intricate problems in a commerce-intensive environment.

You are an expert-level programmer in one or more of Golang, Rust, Python, Java, or TypeScript — your coding skills enable you to design and implement high-performance, reliable solutions. You have a solid understanding of low-level operating systems concepts including multi-threading, memory management, and networking, which allows you to optimize system resources effectively.

You are proficient in writing and maintaining Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools like Terraform, AWS CDK, or Pulumi — your experience with CI/CD pipelines ensures that your code is integrated smoothly into production environments. You understand the importance of version control practices and have successfully integrated IaC with CI/CD workflows.

Your experience includes working with payment processors and billing systems, which is a plus for this role. You are familiar with Kubernetes or containers, and you have built and operated data systems that support high availability and performance.

Desirable

Experience with payment processing systems like Stripe would be beneficial, as well as familiarity with event-driven architectures. You are comfortable working across cloud-native services and globally distributed data centers, which is essential for delivering the commerce capabilities that drive Together AI's Cloud products.

What you'll do

As a Senior Backend Engineer at Together AI, you will shape, build, and scale the commerce platform that supports our Cloud products. You will develop mission-critical capabilities including usage-based billing, payment processing, customer-facing analytics, and product entitlements. Your role will involve collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure that the commerce platform meets the needs of our users and scales effectively.

You will be responsible for designing, analyzing, and improving the efficiency, scalability, and stability of various system resources. Your expertise in backend API services will be crucial as you work on building and maintaining high-throughput APIs that handle millions of requests.

You will also engage in code reviews and provide mentorship to junior engineers, fostering a culture of learning and collaboration within the team. Your ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly will help bridge the gap between engineering and other departments.
