SpaceX is seeking a Senior Propulsion Engineer for Raptor Development Operations to own the development and operation of engine ignition systems. You'll work with Embedded Linux, C, C++, and Python in Hawthorne, CA.
You have 5+ years of experience in propulsion engineering, specifically in the development and operation of engine ignition systems. Your background includes a strong understanding of combustion devices and engine systems hardware, enabling you to effectively contribute to the design and analysis of complex systems. You thrive in collaborative environments, coordinating with cross-functional teams to achieve project goals and ensure reliable engine operation.
Your technical expertise includes proficiency in programming languages such as C, C++, and Python, which you utilize to develop and analyze ignition systems and transient sequences. You are familiar with the challenges of working on advanced propulsion systems and have a keen interest in aerospace technologies, particularly in the context of space exploration.
You possess strong leadership qualities, able to guide peers and hold teammates accountable for their contributions. Your ability to communicate effectively with engineers and technicians from various disciplines allows you to foster a productive and innovative work environment. You are committed to safety and excellence in all phases of flight operations.
Experience with full-flow staged combustion engines is a plus, as is familiarity with flight reliability and ground software systems. A background in aerospace engineering or related fields will enhance your candidacy, as will any previous work with launch vehicles or propulsion systems.
As a Senior Propulsion Engineer at SpaceX, you will own the design, analysis, development, and flight operations tasks for the Raptor ignition system and transient sequences. Your responsibilities will include ensuring the success of hardware design and meeting production throughput targets while maintaining reliable engine operation from startup to shutdown. You will coordinate with peers and lead informal teams to achieve project milestones, assigning clear responsibilities and holding teammates accountable for execution.
You will collaborate closely with engineers and technicians across various disciplines, including production, development testing, launch operations, and guidance, navigation, and control (GNC) systems. Your role will involve driving the development of hardware and transient sequences necessary for the successful operation of the Raptor engine during all phases of flight.
In addition to your technical responsibilities, you will contribute to the continuous improvement of processes and systems, ensuring that all work is conducted safely and efficiently. You will be expected to stay updated on the latest advancements in propulsion technology and apply this knowledge to enhance the performance and reliability of SpaceX's engines.
