Job Description

Who you are

You have a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, along with 5 years of experience in software development using one or more programming languages. Your background includes 3 years of experience in designing, analyzing, and troubleshooting large-scale distributed systems, and you have spent 2 years leading projects and providing technical leadership. You possess a systematic problem-solving approach and have effective verbal and written communication skills, which are essential for collaborating with cross-functional teams.

Your expertise lies in computing, distributed systems, storage, or networking, and you are skilled in debugging and optimizing code. You understand the importance of automation in streamlining processes and improving system reliability. You thrive in environments that challenge your intellectual curiosity and problem-solving abilities, and you are eager to tackle the complexities unique to Google Cloud.

Desirable

Experience with cloud computing platforms and frameworks is a plus, as is familiarity with capacity planning and launch reviews. You are comfortable maintaining services once they are live, measuring and monitoring availability, latency, and overall system health. Your proactive approach to scaling systems sustainably through automation aligns with the SRE culture at Google.

What you'll do

As a Senior Site Reliability Engineer at Google, you will combine software and systems engineering to build and run large-scale, fault-tolerant systems. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure that Google Cloud's services maintain reliability and uptime that meets customer needs while continuously improving performance. You will manage complex challenges of scale, utilizing your expertise in coding, algorithms, and large-scale system design.

You will work closely with other engineers to optimize existing systems and build infrastructure that eliminates manual work through automation. Your role will involve systematic incident response and conducting blameless postmortems to foster a culture of learning and improvement. You will also be responsible for measuring and monitoring system health, ensuring that services are reliable and performant.

In addition, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to push for changes that enhance system reliability and velocity. Your contributions will directly impact the efficiency and effectiveness of Google Cloud services, making you a key player in the ongoing evolution of our systems.

What we offer

At Google, you will be part of a team that values intellectual curiosity and problem-solving. We encourage you to apply even if your experience doesn't match every requirement, as we believe diverse teams build better products. You will have access to a range of resources and opportunities for professional growth, allowing you to expand your skills and advance your career in a supportive environment. Join us in shaping the future of cloud computing and making a significant impact on how services are delivered at scale.
