Microsoft is hiring a Datacenter Building Automation Engineer to collaborate on mechanical and building automation designs for cloud datacenters. You'll work with AutoCAD and Azure to ensure efficient project execution in Redmond.
You have a strong background in mechanical engineering with experience in building automation systems — you've successfully collaborated with multidisciplinary teams to deliver complex projects on time and within budget. Your expertise in AutoCAD allows you to create detailed designs that meet project specifications and regulatory requirements. You are familiar with Azure and understand how to integrate cloud solutions into physical infrastructure. You possess excellent communication skills, enabling you to lead discussions with stakeholders and coordinate effectively with consultants and construction teams.
You thrive in a collaborative environment and enjoy working with diverse teams — your ability to manage relationships with internal and external partners has been key to your success in previous roles. You are detail-oriented and proactive in identifying potential issues before they arise, ensuring smooth project execution. You are committed to fostering an inclusive work environment and understand the importance of diverse perspectives in driving innovation.
Experience with large-scale datacenter projects is a plus — you understand the unique challenges associated with building and retrofitting datacenters. Familiarity with BAS systems and controls will enhance your ability to contribute effectively to the team. A passion for sustainability and energy efficiency in building design is highly valued.
In this role, you will collaborate with Microsoft’s Global Mechanical Engineering and Building Automation team to develop mechanical and BAS designs for new datacenter projects and retrofits. You will lead and direct A/E consultants in the design and coordination of BAS systems, ensuring they align with overall cooling methodologies and other engineering disciplines. Your responsibilities will include managing the BAS system designs throughout the project lifecycle, from initial design stages to equipment procurement and installation on site.
You will interface closely with internal procurement teams and manufacturers to ensure that all components meet project specifications and timelines. Your role will involve identifying and resolving issues raised by construction teams and various stakeholders, ensuring that projects stay on track and within scope. You will also be responsible for leading BAS workgroups, facilitating discussions among consulting firms and key stakeholders within Microsoft to drive project success.
