SpaceX is hiring a Structures Technician (Dragon) to assist in the modification, repair, assembly, and installation of rocket and spacecraft components. You'll work with tools and materials to ensure precision in assembly. This role is suitable for entry-level candidates with relevant technical skills.
You are a detail-oriented individual with a strong interest in aerospace technology and hands-on mechanical work. You have experience or training in using tools and machinery, and you understand the importance of precision in assembly and installation processes. You are comfortable working with various materials and have a basic understanding of engineering principles. You are eager to learn and grow in a fast-paced environment, contributing to the exciting mission of SpaceX.
Experience with CAD software such as AutoCAD or SolidWorks is a plus, as it will help you in interpreting technical drawings and specifications. Familiarity with aerospace components or manufacturing processes will also be beneficial.
As a Structures Technician (Dragon) at SpaceX, you will be responsible for the modification, repair, assembly, and installation of rocket and spacecraft components. You will use tooling holes, pilot holes, or hand tools as required, following detailed drawings and tooling instructions. Your role will involve aligning parts and securing them in place using clecos or tooling/hand clamps, ensuring that all components meet the required specifications.
You will check for good edge margins and alignment, shim and/or trim parts as necessary, and select the appropriate drill bits, reamers, and countersinking tools for pilot and full-size holes. You will locate and drill pilot holes using a drill motor and the correct size drill bits, and you will drill, ream, and countersink full-size holes in parts and assemblies in the proper sequence.
In addition, you will disassemble parts and deburr holes using chip chasers, deburring tools, and files to prepare for the installation of fasteners. You will also be responsible for cleaning surfaces with solvents prior to sealing or assembly, applying sealant, alodine, primer, adhesives, and special finishes as required. Your role will include loading and unloading ovens to bond detail parts to assemblies and handling hazardous materials in an approved manner.
