Verkada is seeking a Backend Software Engineering Intern for 2026 to work on scalable distributed systems. You'll collaborate with the Backend Engineering team and utilize technologies like PostgreSQL, Redis, and DynamoDB. This is an on-site position in San Mateo, CA.

In this internship, you will build scalable distributed systems capable of handling high traffic from hundreds of thousands of devices deployed globally. You will work closely with the Backend Engineering team to develop and enhance Verkada's flagship software, which integrates various security solutions. Your responsibilities will include collaborating cross-functionally to ensure that the software meets the needs of customers and is robust enough to handle real-world demands. You will have the opportunity to learn about high concurrency key-value storage systems like Redis and DynamoDB, as well as relational databases such as PostgreSQL. You will participate in code reviews, contribute to technical documentation, and assist in troubleshooting and optimizing existing systems. This role will provide you with a comprehensive understanding of backend engineering practices and the chance to make a meaningful impact on the company's products.
