Job Description

We are seeking a strategic, hands-on, and technically strong Global Head of Tax to lead our global tax function at a dynamic and fast-evolving public networking technology company. Operating at the intersection of hardware, cloud, and connectivity, we deliver cutting-edge networking solutions to a global customer base.

This role is ideal for a seasoned tax leader who thrives in complex global environments and understands the unique challenges of a technology company that develops, sells, and supports networking hardware and cloud-based services. You will be responsible for overseeing global tax strategy, compliance, reporting, and planning to ensure the company is optimized for growth, scalability, and long-term financial performance.

This role reports to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and is a hybrid role, expected to be onsite 3 days a week in our San Jose HQ.

Key Responsibilities

Tax Strategy & Planning

  • Develop and implement a forward-looking global tax strategy aligned with the company’s business model (e.g., product sales, services, subscriptions).

  • Advise executive leadership on tax implications of business decisions, pricing models, product launches, and geographic expansion.

  • Structure and support IP ownership and legal entities to optimize global tax footprint.

Tax Compliance & Reporting

  • Oversee accurate and timely preparation of U.S. federal, state, and international tax filings.

  • Lead quarterly and annual income tax provisions and related SEC disclosures under ASC 740.

  • Ensure SOX compliance and maintain internal controls over tax-related processes.

International Tax & Transfer Pricing

  • Manage and support global transfer pricing strategy for intercompany hardware sales and services.

  • Monitor international tax developments, including BEPS 2.0, Pillar Two, and digital services taxes, and assess their impact on the company.

  • Ensure proper tax treatment of cross-border operations, royalties, and services revenue.

Audit & Risk Management

  • Manage global tax audits and maintain proactive relationships with tax authorities and external advisors.

  • Minimize tax risk through documentation, policy development, and defensible tax positions across jurisdictions.

Team Development & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Lead and grow a high-performing tax team.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Finance, Legal, Supply Chain, Engineering, and Sales on global initiatives.

  • Serve as a business partner in M&A due diligence and integration for tax structuring and compliance.

  • Manage relationships with external tax advisors and consultants.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline; CPA and/or Master’s in Taxation preferred.

  • 15+ years of progressive tax experience, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role at a public company or Big Four firm.

  • Deep understanding of ASC 740, global tax structuring, and the tax treatment of physical goods, embedded software, and cloud services.

  • Familiarity with international supply chains, manufacturing, and distribution entities from a tax perspective.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in the networking, hardware, or broader tech sector.

  • Hands-on and solutions-oriented leader comfortable in a lean organization going through transformation.

  • Experience working with ERP systems (e.g., Oracle) and tax provision/compliance tools.

  • Strong communication skills and ability to simplify complex tax issues for executive stakeholders.

  • Experience managing tax planning in the context of channel distribution and multinational go-to-market models.
