Waymo is seeking a Senior Software Engineer (ML) to enhance the Car Experience through machine learning and backend development. You'll work with Python and C++ to build ML data pipelines and AI solutions on Google Cloud. This role requires experience in backend technologies and machine learning.
Job Description
Who you are
You have 5+ years of experience in backend engineering, particularly in building production systems that leverage machine learning. Your expertise includes working with data pipelines and you understand the intricacies of model precision and recall. You are proficient in Python and C++, and you have experience with backend technologies such as Spanner. Your strong written and verbal communication skills enable you to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
You are familiar with multimedia machine learning techniques, including image recognition and video analysis, and you have a preference for working with Gemini APIs or other ML multimedia APIs. Your background may include experience in the self-driving car industry, and you have a keen interest in applying your skills to enhance user experiences in autonomous driving.
Desirable
You have a solid understanding of Google infrastructure, including tools like Spanner, Flume, and Borg. Experience as an Engineering Lead is a plus, as you will guide technical aspects of development and mentor junior engineers.
What you'll do
In this role, you will guide all technical aspects of development, including defining technical requirements, designing, implementing, unit testing, and integrating solutions. You will collaborate closely with the Operations team to detect and prevent events such as lost items or passengers in the wrong seat by leveraging data pipelines and machine learning models. Your work will involve applying engineering principles to train large language models on Waymo use cases, ensuring that the Waymo Driver provides safe and delightful experiences for all riders.
You will design, build, and productionize AI solutions using Google Cloud, focusing on enhancing the Car Experience through innovative machine learning applications. Your responsibilities will include building ML data pipelines to analyze model performance and improve overall system reliability. You will also engage in technical discussions and contribute to the continuous improvement of the engineering processes within the team.
