Senior Software Engineer, Backend (Powered by Affirm)

You have 5+ years of backend engineering experience, particularly in building production systems that scale effectively. You have a proven track record of owning services from design through deployment and are adept at navigating complex distributed systems issues. Your expertise in Java and REST API development allows you to create high-performance solutions that meet business needs. You thrive in collaborative environments, working closely with product management, design, and analytics teams to drive product development and innovation. You are proactive in identifying and solving project, process, or technology issues, advocating for improvements that enhance team performance and product quality. You foster a culture of quality and ownership within your team, setting high standards for code reviews and design practices. You are also committed to developing talent on your team, mentoring junior engineers and helping them grow in their careers.

What you'll do

In this role, you will be responsible for leading your team to achieve quarterly goals, guiding engineers through ambiguity to solve open-ended problems. You will collaborate with stakeholders throughout the product development lifecycle, participating in ideation sessions and articulating technical constraints to ensure informed decision-making. You will monitor and support the operations and availability of your team’s artifacts, creating and tracking metrics to ensure optimal performance. Your leadership will help establish a culture of quality and ownership, as you advocate for best practices in code review and design standards. You will also play a key role in developing talent within your team, providing mentorship and support to help engineers reach their full potential. Your contributions will directly impact the success of Affirm’s integrations with enterprise merchants, driving innovation and enhancing the user experience.
