Overview

SpaceX is seeking a Build Supervisor for the Starship project to lead a team of fabricators and technicians. You'll be responsible for managing workflows and ensuring the successful construction of the Starship and Super Heavy vehicles. This role requires strong leadership and technical direction skills.

Who you are

You have a proven track record in a supervisory role, ideally within a manufacturing or aerospace environment, where you have successfully led teams of skilled technicians. Your leadership style is hands-on, and you thrive in fast-paced settings where you can inspire and motivate your team to achieve their best work. You understand the importance of effective communication and collaboration with engineering teams to translate technical directives into actionable tasks on the shop floor.

You possess strong organizational skills, allowing you to manage daily schedules and workflows efficiently. Your experience includes performance management, where you have assessed skill sets and identified training needs to develop your team's capabilities. You are adept at monitoring shop floor activities and ensuring that production goals are met while fostering a positive and productive work culture.

Your ability to analyze work instructions and make recommendations for improvements demonstrates your commitment to continuous improvement. You are comfortable providing data and reporting to support departmental metrics and objectives, ensuring that your team is aligned with the overall goals of the organization.

Desirable

Experience in aerospace manufacturing or a related field is a plus, as is familiarity with advanced manufacturing techniques and technologies. You may have a background in welding, fabrication, or other technical disciplines that enhance your ability to lead a diverse team effectively.

What you'll do

As the Build Supervisor for the Starship project, you will oversee the daily operations of the shop floor, ensuring that your team of approximately 30 technicians is working efficiently and effectively. You will lead by example, often working alongside your team to drive progress on construction tasks. Your role will involve distributing labor resources, prioritizing tasks, and setting headcount requirements to meet production demands.

You will collaborate closely with the engineering team to understand technical directives and translate them into practical applications on the shop floor. Your leadership will be crucial in maintaining a culture of safety, quality, and productivity, where team members feel valued and motivated to contribute to the mission of SpaceX.

In addition to managing daily operations, you will be responsible for performance management tasks, including conducting regular reviews and providing feedback to your team members. You will identify training needs and develop programs to enhance the skills of your technicians, ensuring that they are equipped to meet the challenges of building the Starship and Super Heavy vehicles.

Your role will also involve monitoring key performance indicators and providing data-driven insights to support departmental objectives. You will play a vital role in fostering a collaborative environment where innovation and problem-solving are encouraged, ultimately contributing to the success of SpaceX's ambitious goals.
