Overview

Waymo is seeking a Senior Machine Learning Engineer to enhance autonomous driving technology through advanced perception systems. You'll work with Python, TensorFlow, and Keras to develop robust models for scene understanding. This role requires significant experience in machine learning and computer vision.

Who you are

You have 5+ years of experience in machine learning and a strong background in developing perception systems for autonomous vehicles — your expertise in Python and frameworks like TensorFlow and Keras allows you to build and optimize complex models effectively. You understand the intricacies of scene understanding and have a passion for improving safety and efficiency in autonomous driving. Your experience with computer vision techniques enables you to tackle challenges related to identifying and interpreting the behavior of vulnerable road users, traffic controls, and unstructured environments. You thrive in collaborative environments, working closely with cross-functional teams to drive innovation and enhance the capabilities of autonomous systems. You are committed to continuous learning and staying updated with the latest advancements in machine learning and AI technologies.

Desirable

Experience with large-scale data processing and model deployment in production environments is a plus. Familiarity with advanced machine learning techniques and algorithms will set you apart. A background in robotics or autonomous systems can also be beneficial.

What you'll do

As a Senior Machine Learning Engineer at Waymo, you will be responsible for developing and deploying advanced machine learning models that enhance the Waymo Driver's perception capabilities. You will work within the Semantics core team, focusing on critical aspects of scene understanding, including the identification of vulnerable road users and the interpretation of traffic controls. Your role will involve designing experiments, analyzing results, and iterating on models to improve performance and robustness. You will collaborate with engineers and researchers to integrate your models into the Waymo Driver, ensuring they operate effectively in real-world scenarios. You will also contribute to architectural upgrades and new feature development, driving innovation in autonomous driving technology. Your work will have a direct impact on the safety and efficiency of autonomous vehicles, making a difference in the lives of riders.
