Role Overview:
As the DC Operations Manager, you will be the linchpin of our high-frequency trading operations, ensuring optimal performance of our production clusters. Your role is crucial in managing on-site operations, optimizing infrastructure, and driving innovation in our state-of-the-art trading environments. You will also be responsible for leading infrastructure projects, ensuring seamless scalability, and enhancing system efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
Data Center Operations & Coordination:
- Manage the day-to-day operations in our data centers.
- Ensure seamless coordination of on-site tasks, including hardware installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Maintain the smooth functioning of trading infrastructure to minimize downtime and maximize operational efficiency.
Infrastructure & Project Ownership:
- Drive infrastructure-related projects end-to-end, from planning and resource allocation to implementation and post-deployment reviews.
- Lead initiatives to scale, optimize, and upgrade infrastructure in line with business and trading growth.
- Take ownership of timelines, budgets, and cross-functional coordination.
Hardware and Software Deployment:
- Oversee the setup and initial installation of all hardware and software.
- Ensure systems are operational and optimized for trading performance.
- Configure servers, network devices, and storage systems to meet the demanding requirements of high-frequency trading.
Health Monitoring and Reporting:
- Monitor and report on the health of hardware deployed in our data centers.
- Use monitoring tools, analyze performance metrics, and provide regular status updates to relevant stakeholders.
- Identify and address potential issues before they impact trading operations.
Rack Management and Verification:
- Verify rack configurations after any changes or maintenance activities.
- Ensure proper cable management, airflow optimization, and correct labeling to maintain an organized and efficient data center environment.
Inventory Management:
- Maintain accurate records of server inflow and outflow.
- Track hardware assets, manage spare parts, and ensure necessary equipment availability.
Vendor Management:
- Manage vendor relationships, including placing orders and negotiating terms.
- Avoid bottlenecks in the supply chain and ensure timely delivery of hardware and services.
Cross-functional Collaboration:
- Work closely with software developers and system administrators to ensure smooth operations in colocations and data centers.
- Understand the technical requirements of trading systems and implement necessary infrastructure.
Process Improvement and Automation:
- Identify areas for optimization and propose solutions.
- Implement automated processes to enhance efficiency and reduce manual interventions.
Capacity Planning:
- Plan for future data center capacity needs to support the company's growth.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field from a top-tier institution.
- 10+ years of experience in managing large-scale data center or infrastructure operations.
- Proven experience in leading cross-functional infrastructure projects.
- Strong understanding of server hardware, network equipment, and data center design principles.
- Hands-on experience with automation tools, scripting, and monitoring systems.
- Strong problem-solving skills and aptitude for understanding complex systems.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Process-oriented mindset with a focus on automation.
- High level of accountability and ownership of work.
- Willing to work extended hours or weekends as necessary.
- Ability to provide 24x7 on-call support in emergency situations.
