Motional is seeking a Research Software Intern to conduct advanced research in SLAM, machine learning, and sensor calibration for autonomous vehicles. You'll work with large datasets and collaborate with teams to deploy research results. This internship is ideal for Master's or PhD students.
You are a Master's or PhD student in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a similar technical field. You have a strong research background in SLAM, state estimation, and sensor calibration, with publications in top-tier conferences such as CVPR, ICCV, ECCV, ICRA, IROS, or RSS. Your motivation and passion for advancing autonomous vehicle technology drive you to excel in a collaborative environment.
You possess a solid understanding of state estimation problems and are eager to tackle challenges related to scalability in city and multi-city environments. Your ability to work with large-scale datasets allows you to demonstrate the effectiveness of your research, and you are excited about the opportunity to publish your findings in papers and patents.
You thrive in a team-oriented atmosphere, collaborating with various teams to deploy your research results onto autonomous vehicles. Your communication skills enable you to articulate complex ideas clearly and effectively, making you a valuable asset to the team.

As a Research Software Intern at Motional, you will conduct cutting-edge research and development in localization, mapping, and calibration for autonomous vehicles. Your primary focus will be on advanced SLAM methods for city-scale mapping technologies and outdoor sensor calibration technologies. You will collaborate with a team of experts to push the boundaries of what is possible in autonomous vehicle technology.
You will work with large-scale internal datasets, applying your research to real-world scenarios and demonstrating the effectiveness of your findings.
