Overview

Google is seeking a Senior Site Reliability Engineer to ensure the reliability and performance of Google Cloud services. You'll leverage your expertise in distributed systems and programming to tackle complex challenges at scale. This role requires 5+ years of experience in relevant fields.

Job Description

Who you are

You have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. With 5 years of experience in programming across various languages, you are well-versed in the intricacies of software development. Your 3 years of experience in designing, analyzing, and troubleshooting distributed systems, along with your knowledge of administration and networking, make you a strong candidate for this role. You have also led projects and provided technical leadership for at least 2 years, showcasing your ability to guide teams through complex challenges.

Your expertise in Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) combines software and systems engineering to build and run large-scale, fault-tolerant systems. You understand the importance of reliability and uptime for customer satisfaction and are committed to improving system performance. You thrive in a culture of intellectual curiosity and problem-solving, and you appreciate the diverse perspectives that contribute to a successful SRE team.

Desirable

A Master's degree in Computer Science or Engineering is preferred, as it further enhances your understanding of complex systems. Your familiarity with coding, algorithms, complexity analysis, and large-scale system design positions you as a leader in the field. You are passionate about optimizing existing systems and driving automation to eliminate repetitive tasks, ensuring that your team can focus on high-impact work.

What you'll do

As a Senior Site Reliability Engineer at Google, you will manage the complexities of scale unique to Google Cloud. Your responsibilities will include ensuring the reliability and performance of critical services, both internally and externally visible. You will keep a close eye on system capacity and performance, proactively identifying areas for improvement. Your role will involve optimizing existing systems and building infrastructure that supports automation, allowing for a more efficient workflow.

You will lead efforts to manage support services before they go live, engaging in system design consulting and developing software platforms and frameworks. Your expertise will be crucial in capacity planning and conducting launch reviews to ensure that all systems are ready for deployment. You will also participate in blameless postmortems and sustainable incident response practices, fostering a culture of learning and continuous improvement within the team.

Collaboration is key in this role, as you will work closely with cross-functional teams to drive changes that enhance reliability and velocity. You will have the opportunity to mentor junior engineers, sharing your knowledge and experience to help them grow in their careers. Your contributions will directly impact the success of Google Cloud services, making this a highly rewarding position.

What we offer

At Google, we value the contributions of our employees and strive to create an inclusive environment where everyone can thrive. You will have access to a range of benefits designed to support your well-being and professional growth. We encourage you to apply even if your experience doesn't match every requirement, as we believe diverse teams build better products. Join us in shaping the future of cloud computing and making a difference in the tech industry.
