Motional is seeking a Principal Engineer in Motion Planning to develop algorithms for autonomous vehicles. You'll leverage your expertise in robotics and software development, particularly in C++. This role requires a strong background in motion planning and robotics.
You have a Bachelor's degree in Robotics, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, with a preference for a Master's or PhD. You bring proven impact and expertise in the robotics and autonomous vehicle field, with at least 2 years of research experience in robotics and motion planning. Your experience includes 2+ years of C++ software development, and you have successfully taken projects from problem formulation through implementation and deployment. You possess a thirst for knowledge and a commitment to continuous innovation.
As a Principal Engineer on the Motion Planning team, you will apply your passion for robotics and software development to create production-ready solutions for autonomous vehicles. Your responsibilities will include developing a variety of algorithms for motion planning, utilizing search-based methods, sampling-based methods, optimization-based methods, linear-temporal logic, and decision making under uncertainty. You will integrate and evaluate combinations of motion planning and prediction algorithms, ensuring they work seamlessly together. Additionally, you will design and build a robust and scalable codebase that enables rapid exploration and evaluation of different motion planning approaches and algorithms. You will interface with perception and prediction components upstream and trajectory optimization and tracking & control components downstream, ensuring a cohesive system. Participating in code reviews and mentoring sessions with senior team members will be a key part of your role, as you help foster a culture of product-focused engineering, research, and development.
