Google is seeking a Data Center Plant Engineer to manage and maintain critical systems in their data center facilities. You'll work with HVAC, electrical, and mechanical systems to ensure optimal performance. This role requires 7 years of relevant experience in an industrial or commercial environment.
You have at least 7 years of experience in electrical, mechanical, or HVAC systems within industrial or commercial settings — your background equips you with the skills to troubleshoot and maintain complex systems effectively. You possess a strong understanding of electrical and mechanical systems used in data centers, including feeders, transformers, generators, and UPS systems — this knowledge allows you to ensure the reliability and efficiency of critical infrastructure. Your ability to communicate effectively with contractors and team members is essential, as you will often coordinate maintenance and upgrade work on data center systems. You are detail-oriented and capable of reading blueprints and schematics, which aids in your daily inspections and assessments of system performance. You are familiar with standard hand tools and diagnostic equipment, enabling you to perform troubleshooting and repairs efficiently. Your experience in data centers, hospitals, or power plants gives you a unique perspective on the operational challenges faced in high-demand environments.
In this role, you will operate, monitor, and maintain various data center systems, including HVAC, UPS, generators, and electrical distribution systems — your expertise will be crucial in managing the uptime and performance of these systems. You will support the startup, commissioning, and integration of new equipment into the facilities infrastructure, ensuring that all systems are functioning optimally from day one. You will regularly assist senior technicians in inspecting and maintaining critical systems, contributing to the overall reliability of the data center. Your responsibilities will include responding to abnormal conditions in the facilities systems and equipment, which requires a proactive approach to problem-solving. You will also be involved in the maintenance of water pumps and treatment systems, ensuring that all aspects of the data center's physical environment are well-managed. Your role will require you to stay updated on the latest technologies and best practices in data center operations, allowing you to contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the team. You will collaborate closely with other technicians and engineers, fostering a team-oriented environment focused on operational excellence.
At Google, you will be part of a team that designs and operates some of the most sophisticated engineering systems in the world.
