Job Description

Datavant is a data platform company for healthcare whose products and solutions enable organizations to move and connect data securely. Datavant has a network of networks consisting of thousands of organizations, more than 70,000 hospitals and clinics, 70% of the 100 largest health systems, and an ecosystem of 500+ real-world data partners.

By joining Datavant today, you’re stepping onto a highly collaborative, remote-friendly team that is passionate about creating transformative change in healthcare. We invest in our people and believe in hiring for high-potential and humble individuals who can rapidly grow their responsibilities as the company scales. Datavant is a distributed, remote-first team, and we empower Datavanters to shape their working environment in a way that suits their needs.

Datavant’s applications handle some of the most sensitive information that exists, healthcare data. Our mission is to eliminate vulnerabilities that may impact our applications and the security of this data. This is not just a security, but a company level goal. This role will be the leader on the team responsible for making this happen. You will help us build the plan, implement the tools and foster our engineering teams through the journey to become the most secure development environment. If you have been looking for a company that will back and truly prioritize this vision, we want to talk to you.

You Will: (Responsibilities)

  • Lead the team responsible for building a world-class product security function, supporting a step change in the maturity of our program
  • Own Product and Application Security strategy and priorities
  • Partner with our engineering and development team leaders in order to drive higher quality and more secure applications.
  • Determine the skill sets needed on the team, develop and execute a hiring plan.
  • Coach and build a team of exceptional Security Engineers, supporting their growth.
  • Present of the maturity, progress and roadmap for the Product & Application Security Program for stakeholders.
  • Be an active voice, not just at Datavant but in the community to evangelize best security practices.

You Will Bring to the Table:

  • 5 or more years of experience leading Product or Application Security capabilities.
  • Understanding of current threats, vulnerabilities and risks and how to mitigate them.
  • Understanding of security impacts and controls for applications in cloud environments (AWS)
  • Passionate about building a big business that transforms the healthcare industry
  • Thrive in a fast-paced autonomous environment.
  • Excited about the ambiguity of an entrepreneurial, rapidly growing company, and able to juggle many projects and responsibilities
  • Great communication, prioritization, and project management skills.

90 Day Objectives:

  • Review, improve and ratify our Product Security vision, strategy and goals for 2025.
  • Develop a talent plan that defines growth of existing team members and hiring plan for new roles to complement and enhance the capacity of the team.
  • Establish a plan for a Data Security capability within the team.
  • Strengthen relationships and shared expectations between Product Security and Engineering/Product Managers.
  • Build engagement with the Product Team and establish a roadmap for Product Security Features.
  • Review and guide the team’s “Way of Working” to improve management of work, inbound requests, tracking and reporting progress towards goals.
  • Take ownership of Hiring Manager for Application and Product Security. Review the current interview loop and re-launch with an updated loop to ensure we are seeking the right mix of talent on the team.

We are committed to building a diverse team of Datavanters who are all responsible for stewarding a high-performance culture in which all Datavanters belong and thrive. We are proud to be an Equal Employment Opportunity employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, national origin, disability, veteran status, or other legally protected status.

Our compensation philosophy is to be externally competitive, internally fair, and not win or lose on compensation. Salary ranges for this position are developed with the support of benchmarks and industry best practices.

We’re building a high-growth, high-autonomy culture. We rely less on job titles and more on cultivating an environment where anyone can contribute, the best ideas win, and personal growth is driven by expanding impact. The range posted is for a given job title, which can include multiple levels. Individual rates for the same job title may differ based on their level, responsibilities, skills, and experience for a specific job. The estimated base salary range for this role is $245,000-$310,000.

At the end of this application, you will find a set of voluntary demographic questions. If you choose to respond, your responses will be anonymous and used to help us identify areas of improvement in our recruitment process. (We can only see aggregate responses, not individual responses. In fact, we aren’t even able to see if you’ve responded or not.) Responding is your choice and it will not be used in any way in our hiring process.

This job is not eligible for employment sponsorship.
