Google is seeking a Data Center Technician III to install, configure, test, troubleshoot, and maintain hardware and server software. You'll work with mechanical and electrical systems, diagnosing issues in server hardware and operating systems. This role requires experience in a data center environment and knowledge of networking protocols.
You have a solid background in mechanical or electrical systems assembly, with experience in performing component-level repairs and troubleshooting on technical equipment. Your expertise includes diagnosing and troubleshooting operating systems, computer hardware, and server hardware. You are familiar with networking protocols and possess the physical capability to lift and move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, as well as the stamina to exert yourself physically over extended periods, including frequent bending, kneeling, climbing, pushing, pulling, and lifting. You are flexible with your schedule, able to work non-standard hours, including weekends, night shifts, and holidays as required.
With at least four years of experience in the maintenance and monitoring of server systems, you have a proven track record in performing repairs and troubleshooting IT equipment. Your experience may include roles such as Systems Administrator, Network Deployment Engineer, or Help Desk Technician. You have worked in a data center or network operation center environment, which has equipped you with the skills necessary to thrive in this role. A Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience is preferred, along with project management and leadership skills that enable you to collaborate effectively with teams.
As a Data Center Technician III at Google, you will be responsible for installing, configuring, testing, troubleshooting, and maintaining hardware, including servers and their components, as well as server software like Google's Linux cluster. You will monitor the state-of-the-art physical infrastructure that supports Google's powerful search technology, ensuring that all systems operate smoothly and efficiently. Your role will involve diagnosing and resolving issues related to server hardware and software, as well as performing preventative maintenance based on identified issues.
You will collaborate with various teams to ensure that security issues are handled in accordance with Google's security standards, including the proper erasure of data from equipment that has reached its end-of-life. Your responsibilities will also include disassembling equipment for part replacement or maintenance, ensuring that all tasks are completed in a timely and efficient manner. You will be expected to contribute to a culture of safety and excellence within the data center, promoting best practices and continuous improvement.
