In this role, you will work closely with Amazon's global transportation businesses to build strategic initiatives and frameworks that support carrier partners in meeting legal and contractual obligations relating to business practices, driver / provider eligibility, and safety standards. You will be expected to understand laws and regulations applicable to the Amazon transportation network, assess effectiveness of existing risk and control concepts, and propose innovative mitigation strategies that enable business success. You must clearly and concisely communicate identified findings to senior leadership, and will be responsible for partnering with cross-functional teams to design workflows in support of risk-reduction activities. You will set program objectives, assign appropriate metrics that measure success, and drive business changes that reduce risk. You will work collaboratively with business stakeholders, legal, tech, and field operations teams to implement world-class, customer-centric, compliance and risk management solutions.

A day in the life
The Principal Risk Manager will leverage their knowledge of labor and employment laws, insight into industry regulations and standards, and their experience in risk assessments to develop mitigation strategies that influence Amazon’s transportation businesses throughout all phases of their lifecycle. The individual will work collaboratively with business stakeholders, legal, partner audit teams, and tech to implement world-class, customer-centric, risk-reducing solutions and drive process improvements. The Principal Risk Manager executes using a broad set of skills that range from high-level strategic thinking to deep dive analytical problem solving. They exemplify high judgment, effective decision-making, innovative thinking, and a strong customer focus.
About the team
Transportation Risk and Compliance (TRC) is the voice of risk and compliance for Amazon’s transportation businesses across 16 regions. We proactively identify and manage risks through mitigation strategies and provide assurance that Amazon and our carrier partners comply with the highest transportation and legal standards (including legislative, regulatory, and contractual). Anchored by sound subject matter expertise, processes, and growing technology solutions, our TRC leaders improve public safety and enable business growth as we work diligently to serve our customers.- 10+ years risk management, audit, legal, compliance, or similar discipline.
- BA or BS in business, economics, operations, accounting, finance, policy, IT, or related field.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office products and applications at an advanced level- Master's degree or equivalent
- Auditing and/or compliance skills (e.g., SOX, SOC, etc.) including risk assessments, defining audit roadmaps, audit or risk program design, control environment process documentation, and control mapping.
- An ability to design and interpret meaningful KPIs and metrics
- Experience managing external agencies.
- Understanding of basic data analytical skills and tools such as Tableau, SQL (intermediate to advanced).
- One or more professional certifications - CPA, CISA, CIA, CFE, CCEP, PMP.
- Background in continuous improvement (i.e. Six Sigma, ISO, Total Quality, etc.).

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $129,800/year in our lowest geographic market up to $214,500/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
