Microsoft is hiring a Principal Software Engineer to build a hyper-scale data ingestion service for Office365. You'll work with Azure, C#, and SQL to manage data for millions of users. This role requires extensive experience in software engineering and data management.
You have a strong background in software engineering with over 10 years of experience in building large-scale distributed systems — you've successfully led projects that handle massive amounts of data and understand the complexities involved in data ingestion and processing. Your expertise in Azure and C# allows you to design and implement robust solutions that meet the needs of high-demand applications like Office365.
You possess a deep understanding of data privacy and compliance requirements — you know how to design systems that safeguard sensitive information while ensuring efficient data flow. Your experience with SQL and data management tools enables you to optimize data storage and retrieval processes, ensuring that data is accessible and actionable for various stakeholders.
You thrive in collaborative environments and have a proven track record of working closely with cross-functional teams — your ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders helps bridge gaps and foster a shared understanding of project goals. You are passionate about mentoring junior engineers, sharing your knowledge, and helping them grow in their careers.
Experience with machine learning frameworks is a plus — you understand how to leverage data for predictive analytics and feature development. Familiarity with Python and Java enhances your versatility in tackling various engineering challenges.
As a Principal Software Engineer at Microsoft, you will lead the development of a hyper-scale data ingestion service that supports Office365 — your role will involve architecting solutions that can handle the ingestion of over 30,000 TB of data daily from more than 300,000 Exchange Online machines. You will ensure that the service meets stringent privacy and compliance standards, implementing safeguards against data leaks and ensuring that sensitive information is transformed appropriately.
You will collaborate with product and engineering teams to gather requirements and translate them into technical specifications — your insights will help shape the direction of the data ingestion service, ensuring it aligns with business objectives and user needs. You will also be responsible for monitoring the performance of the ingestion service, identifying bottlenecks, and implementing optimizations to enhance efficiency and reliability.
Your leadership will be crucial in guiding the engineering team through complex challenges — you will conduct code reviews, provide technical guidance, and foster a culture of continuous improvement. You will also engage in strategic planning, helping to define the roadmap for future enhancements and innovations in the data ingestion space.
Microsoft offers a dynamic work environment where innovation is encouraged — you will have the opportunity to work on cutting-edge technologies that impact millions of users worldwide. We provide competitive compensation packages, including salary and benefits that reflect your expertise and contributions.
