C++

Overview

Bungie is seeking a Lead Game Engineer to design and build the player pursuit engine for their upcoming game Marathon. You'll collaborate with creative partners and manage engineering talent while utilizing your expertise in C++. This role requires experience in designing networked game systems.

Job Description

Who you are

You have a passion for games and the technology that drives player engagement — your experience in designing and building networked game systems has equipped you with the skills to create immersive player experiences. As a leader, you have successfully managed and mentored engineers, guiding them through the planning, development, and shipping of high-quality code. Your ability to communicate effectively with fellow engineers allows you to drive team consensus and alignment on technical solutions.

You thrive in collaborative environments, working closely with creative talent to develop features that enhance gameplay and player pursuits. Your technical expertise in C++ enables you to build and maintain production-quality code, ensuring that the game's economy model is robust and engaging. You understand the importance of balancing creativity with technical excellence, and you are committed to fostering a supportive and innovative team culture.

Desirable

Experience in the gaming industry is a plus, as is familiarity with game-as-a-service models. You are open to learning new technologies and methodologies that can enhance your team's performance and the overall player experience. Your leadership style is characterized by providing constructive feedback and career development coaching to your team members, helping them grow in their roles.

What you'll do

As the Lead Game Engineer for Marathon, you will be responsible for designing and building the player pursuit engine, a critical component of the game's economy model. You will lead by example, writing and maintaining high-quality C++ code while collaborating with design leads to develop technical solutions that meet their vision for player experiences. Your role will involve managing a small team of engineers, providing them with the support and mentorship they need to succeed.

You will be an owner and decision-maker for technical features related to player pursuits, ensuring that the systems you build are scalable and maintainable. Your ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders will be essential as you work to align the engineering team's efforts with the broader goals of the game development process.

In addition to your technical responsibilities, you will play a key role in hiring and building a diverse engineering team that values creativity and technical excellence. You will foster a culture of collaboration and innovation, encouraging your team to share ideas and push the boundaries of what is possible in game design.

What we offer

Bungie offers a competitive salary range of $189,000 to $223,000 USD, along with a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental, and vision coverage, a matching 401(k), paid time off, and wellness programs. You will have the opportunity to work remotely while being part of a diverse and inclusive company culture that values creativity and work-life balance. Join us in creating world-class gaming experiences that engage players and foster community.
