Stripe is hiring a Staff Software Engineer for their Stream Infrastructure team to build and operate real-time, event-driven platforms. You'll work with technologies like Kafka and focus on high-throughput streaming workloads. This position requires experience in operating streaming technologies at scale.
You have 5+ years of experience in software engineering, particularly in building and operating large-scale infrastructure systems. Your expertise includes working with streaming technologies such as Kafka, and you understand the complexities of managing distributed systems. You possess strong written and verbal communication skills, enabling you to produce clear technical documentation and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
You have a proven track record of defining and delivering technical solutions that scale with business growth. Your experience includes automating processes to reduce operational toil and improve efficiency. You are comfortable diving deep into problem spaces when needed, demonstrating a strong analytical mindset and a commitment to high reliability and performance in your work.
Experience with additional streaming technologies like Pulsar, Flink, or Pinot would be a plus. Familiarity with building control planes for managing large-scale infrastructure is also desirable. You thrive in environments that require collaboration with product engineers and managers, and you are eager to contribute to the long-term technical direction of the team.
As a Staff Software Engineer on the Stream Infrastructure team, you will partner with other infrastructure engineers and product teams to define and deliver the next generation of Stripe’s streaming infrastructure. Your role will involve setting a long-term technical direction that aligns with Stripe’s growth while ensuring reliable and efficient operations. You will be responsible for operating dozens of Apache Kafka clusters, focusing on maintaining industry-leading reliability and efficiency.
You will work on automating upgrades, maintenance, and day-to-day operations to minimize operational toil. Your contributions will directly impact the performance and scalability of Stripe’s services, enabling asynchronous communication between services and supporting high-throughput streaming workloads across the company.
Collaboration is key in this role, as you will engage with leaders on adjacent teams to understand their needs and ensure that the infrastructure you build meets their requirements. You will also be involved in producing clear technical documentation to facilitate knowledge sharing within the team and across the organization.
