Overview

SpaceX is hiring a Mechanical Engineer, Design (Starship Components) to develop advanced spacecraft components. You'll work with AutoCAD and SolidWorks to design critical hardware for the Starship. This role requires a strong background in mechanical design and analysis.

Who you are

You have a degree in Mechanical Engineering and a solid understanding of mechanical design principles — your experience includes developing components for high-performance applications, particularly in aerospace or automotive industries. You are proficient in using design software such as AutoCAD and SolidWorks, allowing you to create detailed models and drawings that meet stringent specifications. You thrive in collaborative environments, working closely with cross-functional teams to ensure that designs are manufacturable and meet performance requirements. You are detail-oriented and have a strong analytical mindset, enabling you to troubleshoot and optimize designs effectively. You are passionate about space technology and eager to contribute to projects that push the boundaries of engineering.

Desirable

Experience with flow control devices, valves, and actuators is a plus, as is familiarity with testing and validation processes for aerospace components. A background in working with materials that can withstand extreme environments will set you apart.

What you'll do

As a Mechanical Engineer on the Starship Components team, you will be responsible for designing and developing innovative flow control devices that are critical to the operation of the Starship. You will lead projects from concept through to production, ensuring that all designs are manufacturable and meet the rigorous demands of space travel. You will collaborate with vehicle hardware and systems teams to integrate your designs into the overall vehicle architecture, providing input on design trade-offs and performance metrics. Your role will involve conducting analysis and testing to validate designs, ensuring they can operate under extreme conditions. You will also be involved in the continuous improvement of existing components, identifying opportunities for optimization and innovation.
