Nuro is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to optimize the performance of their autonomous vehicle software. You'll work with C++, Python, and Linux to enhance system efficiency and safety. This role requires strong experience in performance analysis and optimization.
You have 5+ years of experience in software engineering, particularly in performance optimization for complex systems. Your expertise in C++ and Python allows you to analyze and debug performance issues effectively, ensuring high efficiency in software applications. You are familiar with Linux and have experience working with embedded systems, which is crucial for developing software for autonomous vehicles. You thrive in collaborative environments, working closely with cross-functional teams to define system architecture and best practices. You are passionate about building scalable systems and have a strong understanding of memory management and thread prioritization. You are committed to fostering an inclusive and psychologically safe workplace, encouraging open communication and collaboration among team members.
Experience with autonomous vehicles or robotics is a plus, as it gives you a unique perspective on the challenges faced in this field. Familiarity with performance analysis tools and techniques will help you drive latency reduction and resource efficiency efforts effectively. You are also open to mentoring junior engineers, sharing your knowledge and best practices to help them grow in their careers.
In this role, you will analyze, profile, debug, and optimize the performance of Nuro's autonomous vehicle software. You will design and develop systems and tools for memory management, thread prioritization, and process/thread lifetime management, ensuring that the autonomy stack is efficient and performant. You will collaborate with engineers from different teams to define the system-level architecture and building blocks necessary for high-performance code. Your work will involve building core libraries and APIs that enable autonomy engineers to write efficient software. You will drive and encourage best practices within the team and the organization, ensuring that performance optimization is a key focus in all development efforts. You will also participate in continuous performance analysis, helping to identify areas for improvement and implementing solutions that enhance the overall performance of the software.
