Waymo is seeking a Senior Android Engineer to build critical Android systems for their autonomous fleet. You'll work with Java and Android to develop user-facing products and foundational libraries. This role requires experience in mobile development and UI design.
You have 5+ years of experience in mobile engineering, specifically with Android applications, and a strong understanding of building user-facing products. Your expertise in Java and Android development allows you to create scalable and efficient applications that enhance user experience. You are familiar with UI design principles and have a passion for building pixel-perfect interfaces that meet user needs. You are open to learning and adapting to new technologies, including mobile fullstack development, and you thrive in collaborative environments where you work closely with product designers and other engineers.
Experience with Server Driven UI (SDUI) is a plus, as is familiarity with frontend technologies such as Angular. You have a keen interest in the operational aspects of autonomous vehicle management and are excited about the opportunity to contribute to the future of transportation.
In this role, you will be responsible for building Android systems that are critical to Waymo's success, including applications used by enterprise partners to manage their fleets of autonomous vehicles. You will develop foundational libraries that include scalable UI components, focusing on architecture and performance. Your work will directly impact the efficiency of depot operators and enhance the accessibility of autonomous fleet management.
You will collaborate with product designers to ensure that the applications you build are user-friendly and visually appealing. Your problem-solving skills will be put to the test as you tackle real-world challenges in autonomous transportation, improving human task completion and simplifying complex processes. You will also have the opportunity to mentor junior engineers and contribute to the overall growth of the team.
