Google is seeking a Director of Engineering for the BigQuery Platform to lead engineering teams in developing innovative features and infrastructure. You'll work with AI and security technologies to enhance BigQuery's reliability and performance. This role requires 15 years of engineering leadership experience.
You have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience, along with 15 years of professional experience in engineering leadership or related technical roles. Your background includes operating in an entrepreneurial environment, scaling new and emerging products from the ground up. A PhD in Computer Science is preferred, as is experience bringing innovative, industry-leading, category-defining tech products to market. You have a proven track record of working with executive-level internal and external clients and partners, acting as a representative of the company. Your expertise extends to enterprise security and high-scale distributed systems, and you excel at working cross-functionally, partnering with groups such as product management, product marketing, UX, and UI. You possess excellent narrative and storytelling abilities, communication skills, and presentation skills.
As the Director of Engineering, you will lead teams of engineers in the development and delivery of BigQuery engineering, security, and multi-tenancy infrastructure. You will collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and other stakeholders to ensure that BigQuery is utilized to its full potential, creating innovative features that enhance reliability and security while optimizing engineering velocity. Your role will involve leveraging AI and agents to accelerate the development of BigQuery and its infrastructure. You will set and communicate a clear technical direction that aligns with business goals, driving standards for engineering excellence that lead to the development of an AI base to ensure BigQuery service infrastructure and engineering infrastructure improves security, reliability, and velocity. Additionally, you will work closely with product management to define the product roadmap in collaboration with Google Cloud and broader Google teams, staying up-to-date on the latest trends in data analytics, security, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and agent development.
