Job Description

Who We Are

Sauron is the home security company of the future. Homeowners today lack compelling options when it comes to peace of mind against vulnerabilities, and total command and control of their home. Leveraging cutting-edge AI and sensor technology, Sauron brings next-generation technology to homeowners to protect their families and property. Incubated by the serial entrepreneur Kevin Hartz and Atomic, Sauron is building the new perception system for the home.

The Role | Camera Integration Engineer

Sauron is creating a new paradigm in how homeowners interact with their properties and security systems.  As our Camera Integration Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in leading the efforts to select, integrate, and validate the key vision systems for our security products. You will drive the design, development, and iteration of hardware products from concept through hands-on prototyping and fabrication then onwards to manufacturing and installation, ensuring that they meet the highest standards of functionality and reliability.

You will work alongside cross-functional teams including perception engineering, software engineering, electrical engineering, product design, sales, and security operations to deliver world-class products. As a functional design lead you will also direct the efforts of external partners including sensor supply chain and product assembly and test.

We value:

  • Collaboration, teamwork, and creative thinking.

  • Continuous building and testing.

  • Taking ownership over the full product experience from installation through customer interaction and lifecycle reliability.

  • Test-driven, evidence-based development and hands-on, rapid validation.

You will contribute by:

  • Overseeing the end-to-end selection, design and integration, development, and implementation of high resolution camera hardware in our home security hardware systems.

  • Selecting and integrating appropriate sensor, lens, and processing components to support perception systems for detection and deterrence use cases including night vision, object detection and identification, and object tracking.

  • Collaborating with other engineering functions and with non-technical teams to ensure we are creating the best possible product for our clients.

  • Utilizing rapid prototyping to validate designs and to test function, manufacturability, ease of install, and reliability.

  • Optimizing video capture, encoding, streaming (RTSP, ONVIF, etc), and storage workflows for minimal latency and maximum quality.

  • Troubleshooting integration issues related to hardware interfaces (MIPI, USB, etc), ISP tuning, and thermal or power constraints.

  • Overseeing manufacturing and assembly to ensure that designs are implemented in a manageable and cost-effective manner.

  • Managing project timelines, resource allocation, and deliverables for the hardware engineering team.  Communicating status and key risks to project stakeholders.

Your background includes:

  • 5+ years of extensive, current experience in high fidelity camera hardware selection, design, and integration- ideally in security or autonomous vehicle systems.

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Product Design, Embedded Systems, or similar field of study.

  • Experience in rapid prototyping techniques such as 3D printing, and rapid test/validation methods.

  • Proven experience leading design of products from concept to mass production.

  • Familiarity with mechanical, electrical, and firmware engineering for camera design and support.

  • Deep understanding of camera modules, images sensors, ISP pipelines, video codecs, real-time streaming protocols, and camera calibration.

  • Familiarity with Linux-based embedded systems, driver development, and SDKs from major camera vendors (e.g., Sony, OmniVision, Ambarella).

  • Excellent ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with designers, product owners, engineers in other domains, and non-technical teams.

Nice to haves (familiarity with/desire to learn):

  • Knowledge of adjacent systems design such as motor control, audio engineering, lighting systems, and processor support.

  • Hands-on experience with rapid prototyping tools and equipment.

  • Experience working with domestic and overseas manufacturing partners.

  • Network contacts with hardware component supply base and design and manufacturing partners.

  • Quality control planning, review, and documentation.
