Mozilla is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager for their Cloud Engineering team to lead improvements in their internal developer platform. You'll work with tools like GitHub Actions and ArgoCD to enhance service health and optimize cloud infrastructure costs. This role requires significant experience in engineering management.
You have a strong background in engineering management with at least 5 years of experience leading technical teams — you've successfully driven projects that enhance developer productivity and service reliability. Your expertise in cloud infrastructure management is complemented by a solid understanding of CI/CD practices, enabling you to implement effective solutions that streamline development workflows.
You are well-versed in modern development tools and practices, particularly with GitHub Actions and ArgoCD — you understand how to leverage these tools to build robust CI/CD pipelines that facilitate continuous integration and delivery. Your experience includes optimizing cloud costs and implementing FinOps strategies, ensuring that resources are utilized efficiently while maintaining high service availability.
You possess a deep understanding of observability and service health standards — you have set benchmarks for teams to follow, making it easier for them to adopt best practices in monitoring and incident response. Your leadership style fosters collaboration and encourages team members to take ownership of their work, driving a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
You are passionate about open-source software and its impact on the internet — you align with Mozilla's mission to create a better internet for people, not companies. Your commitment to this mission drives you to innovate and advocate for user-centric solutions that prioritize privacy and security.
Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure would be a plus, as well as familiarity with cost management tools and practices. A background in software development, particularly in languages like Python or Java, can enhance your ability to guide your team effectively.
As the Senior Engineering Manager for Cloud Engineering at Mozilla, you will lead the Delivery Engineering team, focusing on enhancing the internal developer platform. Your primary responsibility will be to drive the modernization of the CI/CD system, utilizing tools like GitHub Actions and ArgoCD to improve deployment processes and reduce time to market.
You will manage and optimize Mozilla's cloud infrastructure costs, implementing FinOps practices that ensure transparency and accountability in resource usage. This includes developing strategies for labeling, metering, and showbacks of costs, allowing teams to understand their cloud expenditures better.
Your role will also involve setting the standard for observability across services — you will work closely with teams to ensure they adopt best practices in monitoring and incident management, ultimately improving service reliability and user experience.
In addition to technical leadership, you will mentor and develop your team members, fostering a culture of growth and collaboration. You will conduct regular one-on-ones to support their professional development and help them navigate challenges in their projects.
You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product management and design, to align engineering efforts with Mozilla's strategic goals. Your insights will be crucial in shaping the direction of the Cloud Engineering organization and ensuring that projects align with the broader mission of making the internet better for everyone.
Mozilla offers a competitive salary range for this position, with compensation reflective of your experience and the impact you will have on the organization. You will have the opportunity to work remotely from anywhere in the United States, providing flexibility and work-life balance.
Joining Mozilla means being part of a mission-driven organization that values diversity and inclusion. You will work alongside passionate individuals who are committed to making a positive impact on the internet and the world.
We encourage you to apply even if your experience doesn't match every requirement — we value curiosity, empathy, and a growth mindset just as much as technical skills. Your contributions will help shape the future of technology and the internet, making it a better place for all users.
