Job Description

Amazon’s Mobile Device Management (MDM) team is seeking a dedicated Systems Development Engineer (SysDE I) to build scalable, innovative solutions that drive operational excellence. In this role, you might build a Kotlin agent on Android devices to gather reliability data, use Python to integrate disparate processes, or develop device fleet configurations with global impact. You will work on diverse technical challenges that support critical operations across Amazon’s Fulfillment and Transportation networks.

Key job responsibilities
- Partner with technical project managers and fellow systems development engineers to drive Amazon’s technical programs to successful completion.
- Execute new device testing, including receiving scanner hardware, ensuring management systems support the device, collaborating with hardware vendors to address gaps, and working with field teams to pilot test across various site types.
- Utilize modern programming languages and tools—whether building a Kotlin agent or using Python to integrate processes—to improve and automate critical workflows.
- Engage with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to ensure solutions are scalable, robust, and aligned with business strategy.

A day in the life
- Work within a sprint iterative cycle that includes planning, designing, building, testing, and deploying work.
- Occasionally visit field sites to assist with testing and validating new hardware deployments.
- Occasionally taking on-call responsibilities for troubleshooting systems issues.
- Collaborate daily with team members to troubleshoot challenges and continuously improve processes.

About the team
The Mobile Device Management team is the backbone of Amazon’s global mobile strategy. Our team designs and builds custom software solutions to manage hundreds of thousands of mobile devices across the Fulfillment and Transportation networks. Guided by our team tenets—Every Day is Prime Day, Deliver Like Crazy, Automate Everything, Velocity at Scale, and Resilience by Design—we ensure that our devices and systems are secure, scalable, and innovative. Our mission is to deliver customer-centric mobile devices and services that empower Amazon’s workforce to focus on their objectives without worrying about the underlying technology.- Experience in automating, deploying, and supporting infrastructure
- Experience programming with at least one modern language such as Python, Ruby, Golang, Java, C++, C#, Rust
- Experience with Linux/Unix- Experience with CI/CD pipelines build processes
