Backend Engineer

This is a fast-growing startup based in Antwerp, looking for an AI / Backend Engineer with at least 4 years of experience to strengthen its local team. The role involves building and scaling an AI-driven logistics platform, with a strong emphasis on practical applications of large language models (LLMs) and OCR technology.

The company operates as an automation layer between overloaded inboxes and transportation management systems (TMS). Founded by AI engineers with deep expertise in logistics, it focuses on a single key metric: reducing the time it takes for information to reach the TMS.

By automating complex supply chain workflows, the company integrates directly with existing systems. Its solutions reduce manual errors, eliminate repetitive tasks, and enable logistics teams to work faster and more efficiently.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain our backend system written in Python

• Build and manage AI pipelines using LangGraph

• Set up real-time evaluations and metrics to report accuracy to clients

• Research and improve OCR processing pipelines

• Interact with clients to understand and design new features

• Work closely with a small, motivated team to further develop our application

• Monitor and maintain our cloud setup, ensuring stable pipelines in production

What we expect

• Strong experience with Python

• Experience running applications in Docker containers

• Solid knowledge of SQL (PostgreSQL)

• Hands-on experience with LLMs:

  • Prompt engineering

  • Function calling

  • Creating evaluation dataset

  • Multi-modal processing (PDFs, images, …)

• Knowledge of OCR pipelines

• Knowledge of setting up and running CI/CD pipelines

• Able to work from our office based in the centre of Antwerp (4x week)

• Fluent in English

Big plus

• Experience with Google Cloud Platform and/or Microsoft Azure

• Familiarity with the LangChain ecosystem: LangChain, LangGraph, LangSmith

• A GitHub portfolio with proven projects

• A Master’s in AI or relevant engineering degree

• Affinity with the transport & logistics industry
