Who you are

You are currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field. You have a foundational understanding of software engineering principles and are eager to apply your knowledge in a real-world setting. You care deeply about the end user experience and take pride in building products that solve customer needs. You thrive in collaborative environments and are excited to work with a diverse team of engineers, researchers, product managers, and designers.

You possess strong programming skills in languages such as JavaScript and Python, and you are familiar with APIs, particularly the OpenAI API. You are a quick learner and are motivated to contribute to projects that enhance the accessibility and safety of AI technologies. You understand the importance of optimizing applications for speed and scale, and you are committed to creating an inclusive culture that welcomes diverse perspectives.

Desirable

Experience with collaborative tools such as Git and familiarity with agile methodologies would be beneficial. A passion for artificial intelligence and its applications in real-world scenarios is a plus. You are open to feedback and eager to learn from experienced professionals in the field.

What you'll do

As a Software Engineering Intern at OpenAI, you will work on building new customer-facing features for ChatGPT and the OpenAI API. You will collaborate with a cross-functional team to create cutting-edge products that are safe and reliable. Your role will involve optimizing applications for performance and scalability, ensuring that the technology is accessible to millions of users worldwide. You will participate in iterative development processes, contributing your ideas and insights to enhance product experiences.

You will engage in hands-on coding, testing, and debugging, gaining valuable experience in software development practices. You will also have the opportunity to learn from experienced engineers and contribute to discussions about product design and user experience.
