Reflection is seeking a Lead AI Engineer to develop open-source tools for AI model customization and deployment. You'll work with Python, Machine Learning, and frameworks like PyTorch and TensorFlow in San Francisco.
You hold a graduate degree (MS or PhD) in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related discipline, or possess equivalent practical experience in open source software. You have a strong portfolio of open source contributions, particularly in the LLM tooling space, showcasing your ability to engage with the community and drive innovation. Your deep understanding of post-training techniques such as SFT, RLHF, and DPO allows you to create effective solutions that meet the needs of developers and users alike. You are passionate about building tools that enhance the customization and interaction with AI models, ensuring they are accessible and efficient for a wide range of applications.
Experience with existing best-in-class frameworks like VeRL, torchtune, Tunix, vLLM, and SGLang is a plus, as is familiarity with the open-source community and its dynamics. You thrive in collaborative environments and are eager to engage deeply with users to gather feedback and guide the development of external-facing tools. Your technical expertise is complemented by strong communication skills, enabling you to articulate complex concepts clearly and effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
In this role, you will own the development of Reflection’s open post-training and inference and deployment ecosystem, creating the standard for how the community customizes and interacts with our models. You will build the RL and SFT tooling that external developers use to customize, fine-tune, and align models for their specific needs. Taking the lead on inference and deployment, you will extend or integrate with existing frameworks to meet developers where they are, ensuring that our tools are user-friendly and effective. You will also create Reflection-native libraries when required for performance or flexibility, ensuring our open-weight users have a clean, powerful, production-grade toolkit.
Your responsibilities will include driving the adoption of our models by reducing friction in the fine-tuning process, ensuring adaptation is safe, efficient, and scalable. You will engage deeply with the open-source community to incorporate feedback and guide the roadmap of our external-facing tools, fostering a collaborative environment that encourages innovation and growth. You will work closely with a team of AI researchers and engineers, leveraging your expertise to mentor others and contribute to the overall success of the organization.
