Job Description

Amazon Robotics is seeking a System Development Engineer with Python and Bash programming expertise to join our team and help shape the future of our software delivery pipeline for one of the world's largest robotics fleets. In this role, you will heavily utilize Python, Bash, and CDK daily to design, implement, and maintain the CI/CD infrastructure and tooling that enables our teams to reliably and securely deploy software to robots operating in Amazon facilities worldwide.

We're looking for someone who is passionate about building scalable and reliable automation systems, has strong problem-solving skills, and can work effectively with software and firmware engineering teams to streamline their development workflows.

Key job responsibilities
- Design and implement robust CI/CD pipelines using Python, CDK, and Bash to guide multiple software stacks, from embedded firmware to high-level applications
- Develop and maintain infrastructure as code, primarily using CDK, to automate build, test, and deployment processes
- Create and enhance monitoring tools and scripts using Python for deployment health tracking and automated rollback mechanisms
- Write efficient Bash scripts for system automation and deployment orchestration
- Develop Python-based tools and libraries to improve developer productivity and build times
- Maintain and enhance existing Python and Bash codebase for deployment infrastructure
- Participate in on-call rotation to assist critical deployment infrastructure
- Mentor team members on CI/CD best practices and automation techniques using Python and Bash

A day in the life
Your typical day will involve extensive use of Python and Bash for various tasks. You might start by debugging a Python-based deployment script, then move on to writing Bash automation for new infrastructure components. You'll spend time optimizing CDK code for our CI/CD pipelines, developing new automation tools, and collaborating with team members on scripting solutions. Whether it's enhancing our monitoring systems with Python or creating new Bash scripts for deployment automation, your skills will be constantly engaged in solving real-world challenges in our robotics infrastructure at Amazon scale.

Amazon offers a full range of benefits for you and eligible family members, including domestic partners and their children. Benefits can vary by location, the number of regularly scheduled hours you work, length of employment, and job status such as seasonal or temporary employment. The benefits that generally apply to regular, full-time employees include:

1. Medical, Dental, and Vision Coverage
2. Maternity and Parental Leave Options
3. Paid Time Off (PTO)
4. 401(k) Plan

If you are not sure that every qualification on the list above describes you exactly, we'd still love to hear from you! At Amazon, we value people with unique backgrounds, experiences, and skillsets. If you’re passionate about this role and want to make an impact on a global scale, please apply!

About the team
In this role you'll be at the heart of building and improving our robotics deployment infrastructure. Your morning might start by diving into Python code to streamline our deployment processes. You might spot a bottleneck in a script and work to make it run smoother. By lunch, you could be crafting a Bash script to automate routine tasks that have been slowing the team down.

The afternoon might find you partnering with colleagues to enhance our cloud infrastructure code, or perhaps designing a new monitoring solution that keeps our systems running reliably. Sometimes, you'll step outside your regular duties to tackle unexpected challenges - like architecting a brand-new automation framework or mentoring team members on best practices in scripting.- Experience in automating, deploying, and supporting large-scale infrastructure
- Experience programming with at least one modern language such as Python, Ruby, Golang, Java, C++, C#, Rust
- Experience with Linux/Unix
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines build processes
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent- Experience with distributed systems at scale
- Experience in tools for custom embedded Linux distribution creation such as Buildroot or Yocto.
- Knowledge of AWS services and cloud infrastructure
- Experience programming with one additional modern language such as C++, C#, Java, Rust, JavaScript/TypeScript.
- Exposure to embedded or robotic systems development workflows, which may include experience designing, developing, or debugging robotics, consumer electronics, medical devices, automotive systems, avionics, industrial, or telecommunications products.
