Overview

Microsoft is seeking a Principal Quantum Engineer to lead the design of application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs) for quantum computing. You'll work with technologies like CMOS and FPGA to develop next-generation digital control systems. This role requires extensive experience in ASIC design and quantum-scale electronics.

Job Description

Who you are

You have a strong background in ASIC design, with a focus on application-specific integrated circuits for quantum computing. Your expertise in cryo-complementary metal-oxide semiconductor (CMOS) technology and field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) allows you to innovate in the realm of quantum information technology. You thrive in collaborative environments and are passionate about empowering others while driving technical excellence.

With a deep understanding of device physics and scalable semiconductor engineering, you are well-equipped to guide projects from concept architecture to tape-out. Your experience in leading design flows and process-design kits (PDKs) enables you to foster collaboration with foundry partners effectively. You are committed to pushing the boundaries of technology and are excited about the potential of quantum computing to solve complex problems.

You possess excellent communication skills, allowing you to articulate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences. Your leadership style encourages teamwork and inspires those around you to achieve their best work. You are detail-oriented and have a proven track record of delivering high-quality results in fast-paced environments.

Desirable

Experience with cryogenic systems and ultra-low-temperature electronics is a plus. Familiarity with mixed-signal systems and digital control architectures will enhance your contributions to the team. A passion for quantum computing and its applications in various scientific fields will set you apart as a candidate.

What you'll do

As the Principal Quantum Engineer, you will lead the design of ultra-low-temperature CMOS control ASICs for cryogenic quantum systems. Your responsibilities will include architecting and delivering next-generation digital control systems that integrate seamlessly with quantum information technology. You will oversee the full lifecycle of ASIC design, ensuring that projects meet technical specifications and timelines.

You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including device physicists and semiconductor engineers, to develop innovative solutions that advance Microsoft's quantum computing initiatives. Your role will involve shaping design flows and PDKs that facilitate effective collaboration with foundry partners, ensuring that designs are manufacturable and meet performance requirements.

In this position, you will also mentor junior engineers, sharing your knowledge and expertise to foster their professional growth. You will contribute to the development of best practices in ASIC design and encourage a culture of continuous improvement within the team. Your insights will help drive strategic decisions that align with Microsoft's mission to empower science and scientists.

What we offer

Microsoft offers a dynamic work environment where innovation is at the forefront. You will have the opportunity to work on groundbreaking technology that has the potential to revolutionize computing. The company values diversity and inclusion, fostering a culture where every employee can thrive. Competitive compensation and benefits packages are provided, along with opportunities for professional development and career advancement. Join us in our mission to empower every person and organization on the planet to achieve more through advanced computing platforms.
