Job Description

Smarkets is a betting exchange for sports and political trading that has handled over £29 billion in volume since 2010. We are upending the sports betting industry by growing a platform that offers the best value for bettors, with not only the fairest odds but also the best technology, alongside a superior customer experience.

We are now looking for a Compliance Operations Analyst to grow our compliance team in our London office. Being open-minded, gregarious, having an eye for detail and the ability to root and articulate your opinions in data will allow you to excel at Smarkets. The role of Compliance Operations Analyst is essential in managing risks around our customers, including carrying out checks on customer accounts in line with our SOF/SOW policies and taking the lead on ensuring customer spend is affordable.

In this role, you will act as a subject matter expert on analysis of customer documentation and ensure Smarkets customers are crime-free and gambling affordably. You will have an excellent understanding of our policies on affordability and have a keen understanding of when to escalate customers to the AML team.

About You

  • Prior experience conducting customer reviews and analysis, within a complex investigations/crime environment, ideally in the financial services or gambling sector
  • Strong understanding of how to identify and verify a customer’s Source of Wealth and Source of Funds
  • Good working knowledge of the regulatory frameworks applicable to an online gambling company, including good working knowledge of money laundering and terrorist financing typologies
  • Awareness of other policies applicable to customer analysis, such as customer affordability and safer gambling
  • Eye for detail and experience conducting analysis on documentary evidence from customers
  • Ability to analyse and evaluate complex issues and sound judgement in determining appropriate actions/solutions
  • Professional certification from organisations such as the ICA or ACAMS are a plus
