Job Description

The Senior WW Risk Manager will be responsible for leading the development and implementation of comprehensive operational risk assessments across Amazon's global operations. This includes designing, developing, testing, implementing, verifying, and continually improving assurance processes related to risk. The role will involve extensive engagement, collaboration, and partnership with Amazon businesses, geographical units, and technical subject matter experts (SMEs) in Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) and other functions (i.e., field operations, legal, engineering, data scientists, business intelligence engineers, purchasing) to identify and mitigate operational risks.
A key focus will be scaling ad-hoc risk assessment practices throughout the organization. This will involve creating standardized tools, templates, and training materials to empower site leaders and project SMEs to conduct effective risk assessments. The manager will develop a framework for prioritizing and managing ad-hoc risk assessment requests, ensuring they are aligned with broader risk management strategies.
Furthermore, this role will assist with the strategy and implementation of scalable and reliable actions for managing workplace health and safety (WHS) compliance in different jurisdictions across the globe. The position requires a self-driven, independent, and hands-on approach, emphasizing stakeholder understanding, legal research, data analysis, investigation, root cause analysis, and risk management. Travel will be required approximately 20-30% locally and internationally.


Key job responsibilities
• Operational Risk Assessment Leadership: Develop, implement, and oversee comprehensive operational risk assessment programs. Conduct detailed risk assessments, identify potential hazards, and recommend effective mitigation strategies. Ensure assessments are aligned with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration and Partnership: Partner with cross-functional work teams, including engineering, operations, legal, and safety, to conduct collaborative risk assessments and develop integrated risk management solutions. Facilitate communication and coordination among stakeholders to ensure alignment on risk mitigation strategies.
• Scaling Ad-Hoc Risk Practices: Develop and implement strategies to scale ad-hoc risk assessment practices across the business. Create standardized tools, templates, and training materials to empower site leaders and project SMEs to conduct effective risk assessments. Establish a framework for prioritizing and managing ad-hoc risk assessment requests.
• Risk Management Program Development and Enhancement: Design, implement, and continuously improve risk management programs, including the development of risk tolerances, measurement systems, and communication strategies. Partner with legal teams to interpret and define obligations. Engage cross-organizationally with leadership to design program controls and test strategy. Influence senior leadership to implement strategic and programmatic controls.
• Culture of Risk Awareness and Expertise: Promote a strong culture of risk awareness and expertise within the organization. Build risk management awareness through training, communication, and subject matter expertise. Act as a risk management evangelist, championing best practices and driving continuous improvement.
• Strategic Advisory and Training: Maintain deep subject matter expertise and stay abreast of emerging trends to advise senior leadership on potential risks and their impact on strategic roadmaps. Develop and deliver risk management training to senior leadership. Conceptualize and drive the implementation of cross-product technical risk management solutions to drive program efficiencies.
• Effective Communication: Serve as an effective communicator, delivering clear, concise, and consistent messages, both verbally and in writing.

About the team
The Worldwide Risk Team (WWRT) serves as the cornerstone of our global risk management strategy, orchestrating a comprehensive approach to identify, assess, and mitigate risks across all regions. By implementing a globally centralized mechanism, the WWRT has revolutionized our risk intake process, creating a single source of truth for risk-related information.

This centralized system allows for seamless integration of risk data from diverse sources, enabling the team to scale our risk program efficiently and effectively. As risks are reported and analyzed through this unified platform, the WWRT can deploy enhanced mitigation controls worldwide, ensuring a consistent response to emerging risks.- 6+ years of compliance, audit or risk management experience
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office products and applications at an advanced level
- Experience building cross-functional partnerships and influencing stakeholders across the organization to act without having a direct reporting relationship
- Experience developing and implementing of standards, policies and programs or equivalent
- Bachelors Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering or related field- Project Management Professional (PMP) or equivalent certification
- Experience leveraging technology and implementing lean principles / Six Sigma methodologies to drive process improvements or equivalent
- Master's degree or equivalent
- Experience in compliance, audit or risk management
- Experience in warehouse operations and logistics or equivalent

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $109,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $185,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
