Google is seeking a Data Center Facilities Technician specializing in generators to operate and maintain critical systems in their data centers. You'll leverage your expertise in generator systems and electrical engineering to ensure optimal facility conditions. This role requires 5+ years of relevant experience.
You have a minimum of 5 years of experience in generator inspection, maintenance, and operations within industrial or commercial environments — your hands-on expertise allows you to troubleshoot and resolve issues effectively. You possess an Associate's degree, trade school certification, or equivalent practical experience in a related technical field, which has equipped you with the necessary skills to excel in this role. Your familiarity with OSHA standards and safety equipment ensures that you prioritize safety in all tasks, including material handling and equipment operation.
You have a strong understanding of generator systems used in data center environments, including engines, alternators, control panels, and electrical systems — your knowledge enables you to perform major and minor repairs efficiently. You are comfortable working non-standard hours and adapting to different work rotations or shifts, demonstrating your flexibility and commitment to maintaining operational excellence.
Your experience in data centers, hospitals, or power plants has provided you with a unique perspective on the critical nature of facility operations — you understand the importance of maintaining optimal conditions for sensitive equipment. You are skilled in using diagnostic tools and technical manuals to identify and resolve electrical failures, ensuring that systems operate smoothly and efficiently.
You have the ability to communicate effectively with contractors performing maintenance or upgrade work on data center systems — your collaborative approach fosters strong working relationships and enhances overall team performance. You are proactive in supporting the startup, commissioning, and integration of new generator equipment and systems into the facilities infrastructure, contributing to the continuous improvement of operations.
Experience in a construction or technical environment is a plus, as it complements your existing skills and knowledge. Familiarity with meters, devices, sensors, and troubleshooting techniques using standard hand tools and digital metering will further enhance your effectiveness in this role.
As a Data Center Facilities Technician at Google, you will operate, monitor, and support the physical conditions of data center facilities — your role is crucial in ensuring that all systems function optimally. You will be responsible for performing regular inspections and maintenance on generator systems, addressing any issues that arise to prevent downtime and maintain operational efficiency. Your expertise will be essential in troubleshooting electrical failures and implementing repairs using diagnostic tools and technical manuals.
You will support the startup and commissioning of new generator equipment, integrating it into the existing facilities infrastructure — your contributions will directly impact the reliability and performance of the data center. You will monitor and respond to abnormal conditions in the facilities systems and equipment, ensuring that any potential issues are addressed promptly and effectively.
Collaboration is key in this role, as you will work closely with contractors and other team members to coordinate maintenance and upgrade work — your ability to communicate technical information clearly will facilitate smooth operations. You will also participate in material handling tasks, ensuring that safety protocols are followed at all times.
At Google, you will be part of a team that designs and operates some of the most sophisticated electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, and HVAC systems in the world. You will have the opportunity to work in a dynamic environment where your skills and expertise will be valued. We encourage you to apply even if your experience doesn't match every requirement, as we believe in fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace. Join us in shaping the future of data center operations and making a significant impact in the industry.
