Operations Safety Engineer

Who you are

You have a strong background in safety engineering, ideally with experience in autonomous vehicle operations. You understand the importance of safety management systems and have a keen eye for identifying risks and implementing effective safety measures. Your ability to work cross-functionally is essential, as you will collaborate with various teams to ensure the safe deployment of new operational design domains. You are detail-oriented and committed to fostering a culture of safety within the organization. You thrive in environments that require both technical expertise and strong communication skills, enabling you to effectively coordinate safety initiatives across departments.

Desirable

Experience in the autonomous vehicle industry or related fields is a plus. Familiarity with safety regulations and standards applicable to autonomous operations will enhance your candidacy. You may also have a background in emergency response planning, which will be beneficial in supporting the company-wide Emergency Response Plan. A proactive approach to continuous improvement and a passion for safety will set you apart in this role.

What you'll do

In this role, you will support the implementation and continuous improvement of core Safety Management System programs, including Safety Risk Management, Safety Assurance, and Safety Promotion. You will work closely with the Operations Safety Manager to develop and integrate these components into our Autonomous Operations programs. Your responsibilities will include coordinating cross-functional responses to safety incidents and ensuring timely resolution of any issues that arise. You will also support the safe deployment of new Operational Design Domains for vehicle platforms, applying your expertise to enhance safety protocols and procedures.

You will be involved in the development of safety metrics and reporting systems to track the effectiveness of safety initiatives. Collaborating with engineering and operations teams, you will help identify potential safety risks and develop strategies to mitigate them. Your role will require you to stay updated on industry best practices and regulatory requirements, ensuring that Nuro remains at the forefront of safety in autonomous operations.
