Job Description

Location: Victoria or Vancouver, BC, Canada

We're looking for a Visual Designer strong in visual communication, specializing in creating engaging and cohesive systems for websites, and brands. As part of the AbeBooks design team, you'll play a crucial role in shaping the visual identity and customer experience of our marketplace, creating compelling designs and illustrations that resonate with our global community of buyers and sellers. The ideal candidate will combine deep expertise in design systems with a customer-obsessed mindset to create scalable, intuitive solutions that serve both our buyers and sellers.

About You
You're passionate about creating visually stunning and user-friendly designs that enhance the customer experience. You have a keen eye for detail and understand typography, colour theory, and composition. You have a strong understanding of brand guidelines and the ability to translate them into cohesive visual experiences across all touch points, from digital platforms to marketing materials. You thrive in a collaborative environment, working closely with UX designers, product managers, engineers, marketing managers and other stakeholders to bring ideas to life.

You're able to manage multiple projects simultaneously and adapt quickly in a fast-paced environment. You're always eager to learn and stay up-to-date with the latest design trends and best practices.

Key job responsibilities
- Design and maintain a comprehensive visual design system that scales across multiple devices and mediums
- Develop and maintain brand consistency through thoughtful application of visual identity guidelines
- Create custom illustrations, artwork, and graphics that enhance our brand story and improve user experience
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop design solutions that meet business objectives
- Optimize existing design patterns and contribute to the evolution of the AbeBooks design system
- Mentor other designers and provide constructive feedback in design reviews
- In collaboration with Marketing, build out the AbeBooks brand and set the direction of the visual design language
- Create and maintain illustration style guides that align with our brand identity

A day in the life
As a Visual designer, you'll collaborate with cross-functional teams to create compelling visual narratives that demonstrate the unique value of AbeBooks while ensuring our design language remains consistent, accessible, and forward-thinking. You'll help build a comprehensive design system that maintains perfect sync between Figma components and coded elements, featuring thorough documentation and continuous evolution based on user insights and performance data.

About the team
AbeBooks, an Amazon company, is a global online marketplace for books and collectibles, with hundreds of millions of new, used, rare and out-of-print books listed for sale by thousands of sellers.- 3+ years of design experience
- Have an available online portfolio
- Experience working with agile development teams (agile/scrum/kanban)
- Knowledge of branding guidelines and corporate identity, visual design, print and digital layout design, with experience in designing for both mobile and desktop applications
- Proficiency with industry-standard design tools (Figma, Adobe Creative Suite)- Experience with e-commerce, search, social, and other major application types and their UX patterns
- Experience creating services and applications with multiple user touch points on different platforms and devices
- Knowledge of branding guidelines and corporate identity, visual design, print and digital layout design
- Understanding of accessibility standards and their application in design

The base salary for this position ranges from $59,200/year up to $98,800/year. Salary is based on a number of factors and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
