Overview

Databricks is seeking a Staff Software Engineer specializing in Machine Learning to enhance their Search product. You'll drive the development of ML-based search relevance models and collaborate with cross-functional teams. This role requires 10+ years of experience in search relevance systems.

Who you are

You have a strong background in computer science, holding at least a BS degree, with a preference for an M.S. or PhD. With over 10 years of experience, you've developed search relevance systems at scale, demonstrating your ability to work in high-impact research or production environments. Your expertise in machine learning and natural language processing allows you to design and implement automated ML pipelines effectively.

You thrive in collaborative settings, working closely with product managers and cross-functional teams to drive technology-first initiatives. Your experience enables you to contribute to novel business strategies and product roadmaps, particularly in enhancing search and discovery experiences. You are passionate about building robust frameworks for evaluating search ranking improvements, both offline and online.

Desirable

Experience with large-scale data systems and familiarity with Databricks' products will be advantageous. You are comfortable with rapid experimentation and iteration, and you have a keen interest in advancing AI/ML-powered products. Your ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders will be a key asset in this role.

What you'll do

As a Staff Software Engineer at Databricks, you will lead the development and deployment of machine learning-based search and discovery relevance models. Your role will involve designing and implementing automated ML and NLP pipelines for data preprocessing, query understanding, ranking, and retrieval. You will enable rapid experimentation and iteration, ensuring that the search product evolves to meet customer needs effectively.
