Wikimedia is seeking a Senior Data Scientist on a contract basis to support a research initiative focused on traffic patterns and engagement metrics. You'll utilize Python, SQL, and Jupyter to analyze data and provide insights. This role is fully remote.
You have extensive experience in data science, particularly in analyzing traffic patterns and user engagement metrics. Your background includes proficiency in Python and SQL, enabling you to manipulate and analyze large datasets effectively. You are skilled in using Jupyter for data analysis and visualization, allowing you to present your findings clearly and concisely. You understand the importance of data privacy and are adept at working within guidelines to ensure compliance. You are comfortable collaborating with cross-functional teams to derive insights that drive strategic decisions. You have a strong analytical mindset and are passionate about using data to improve user experiences.
In this role, you will support Wikimedia's research initiative by conducting descriptive analyses of human traffic patterns and referrers. You will explore how different traffic sources relate to on-wiki engagement, assessing the likelihood of users exploring additional pages or contributing content. You will assist in analyzing natural experiments to study the impacts of visibility changes on editing activity and content quality. Your deliverables will include cleaned datasets, summary tables, and Jupyter notebooks that support your analyses. You will also perform time-series analyses for traffic health indicators and content reusers, providing actionable insights to enhance Wikimedia's projects.
