Overview

Apple is seeking a Site Reliability Engineer to manage and build physical infrastructure for software development. You'll work with Unix systems, container orchestration tools, and programming languages like Swift, Go, and Python. This role requires 3+ years of experience in a large-scale distributed environment.

Job Description

Who you are

You have 3+ years of experience as a Site Reliability Engineer, DevOps Engineer, or Systems Administrator focused on physical infrastructure in a large-scale distributed environment. Your strong software development skills in languages like Swift, Go, or Python, combined with a high degree of comfort with shell scripting (Bash), make you a valuable asset to our team. You possess hands-on experience building and managing systems with container orchestration tools such as Kubernetes and Docker, and you have a deep understanding of networking protocols including TCP/IP, DNS, and HTTP. Your experience using observability tools for monitoring, logging, and tracing allows you to diagnose complex issues effectively. You excel in problem-solving and communication, demonstrating a strong sense of ownership and drive in your work.

Desirable

While not required, experience in building automation tools that eliminate manual processes would be a plus. Your ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and mentor others will enhance our supportive, growth-focused culture.

What you'll do

As a Site Reliability Engineer at Apple, you will be responsible for building and managing world-class services and physical infrastructure that support our software engineers globally. You will work closely with the Systems and Infrastructure team to ensure the reliability and performance of our systems. Your role will involve designing and implementing solutions that enhance our infrastructure's resilience and efficiency. You will also be tasked with troubleshooting and resolving issues that arise in our distributed environment, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal performance.

You will collaborate with software engineers to understand their infrastructure needs and provide solutions that facilitate their development processes. Your expertise in container orchestration will be crucial as you help manage our Kubernetes and Docker environments. You will also be involved in capacity planning and performance tuning, ensuring that our systems can handle the demands of our software development lifecycle.

In addition to your technical responsibilities, you will contribute to a culture of engineering excellence by mentoring junior team members and sharing your knowledge of best practices in site reliability and infrastructure management. You will participate in on-call rotations, responding to incidents and ensuring that our systems remain operational and performant.

What we offer

At Apple, we foster a supportive and collaborative work environment where you can grow your skills and advance your career. You will have the opportunity to work on cutting-edge technology and contribute to projects that have a significant impact on our software development processes. We offer competitive compensation and benefits, along with a culture that values diversity and inclusion. Join us to be part of a team that is dedicated to engineering excellence and innovation.
