Chime is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to develop and maintain APIs that power member-facing products. You'll work with Ruby on Rails and transactional databases to enhance the banking platform. This role requires 5+ years of experience in software development.
You have over 5 years of backend engineering experience in a production environment at scale — you've owned projects from inception to deployment and have navigated the complexities of maintaining high-performance systems. Your expertise in Ruby on Rails or comparable frameworks allows you to build robust APIs that serve millions of users effectively.
You possess a strong understanding of transactional databases and caching systems — your experience includes optimizing database performance and ensuring data integrity across applications. You appreciate the importance of maintainable and well-tested code, and you actively advocate for high technical standards within your team.
You thrive in collaborative environments, working closely with cross-functional teams to identify member pain points and develop effective solutions. Your proactive approach to improving system reliability and scalability has led to significant enhancements in previous roles.
Experience with architectural patterns of large, high-scale web applications is a plus — you understand how to design systems that can handle increased loads while maintaining performance. Familiarity with agile methodologies and continuous integration practices will help you integrate smoothly into our fast-paced engineering culture.
As a Senior Backend Engineer at Chime, you will design, develop, test, and refactor backend implementations for new and existing consumer product features. You will collaborate with the mobile team to create resilient APIs that power our member-facing mobile app, ensuring a seamless user experience.
You will take ownership of projects, influencing architecture decisions and maintaining the ongoing health of the codebase. Your role will involve proactively identifying opportunities for improving the reliability and scalability of our systems, which is critical as we continue to grow and serve our members' financial needs.
You will work across the engineering team to uphold high technical standards, participating in code reviews and mentoring junior engineers. Your contributions will directly impact the quality and performance of our banking platform, making a difference in the lives of our members.
Chime offers a competitive base salary starting at $176,490 and going up to $245,100, depending on your experience and location. In addition to salary, full-time employees are eligible for bonuses and a competitive equity package, along with comprehensive benefits.
