About the Opportunity

As a Lead Technical Product Manager at Bitvavo, you will be the most senior individual contributor within the Exchange domain, bringing expert-level knowledge and strategic guidance to one of the most critical parts of our exchange infrastructure. This role requires a deep understanding of financial market mechanisms, order matching algorithms, and low-latency systems.

You will define and execute the product strategy for the Matching Engine, working closely with engineering teams, product stakeholders, and business leaders. Your technical depth and industry expertise will shape key decisions and innovations in this space.

What You’ll Be Doing

The Exchange domain plays a critical role in Bitvavo'sinfrastructure, powering the key processes that drive our trading platform. The team is responsible, amongst others, for the performance and reliability of the matching engines, managing user balances and ensuring accuracy across the platform, as well as supporting order types, order matching and regulatory compliance requirements.

As the Lead Technical Product Manager for the Exchange domain, your responsibilities will include:

• Defining and maintaining the product vision and long-term roadmap, ensuring alignment with company and product strategies
• Serving as the go-to expert for the Matching Engine, providing deep technical and industry insights to guide strategic decisions
• Conducting market research and collaborating with market makers to establish benchmarks for Matching Engine performance and functionality
• Translating technical and regulatory requirements into detailed product specifications for new developments, including advanced order types, compliance adaptations, and performance optimizations
• Partnering with engineering teams to drive innovation, balancing technical feasibility with business impact
• Monitoring and analysing Matching Engine performance data and team KPIs to identify areas for improvement and drive continuous optimization

What We Look For

• 7-10 years of experience in technical product management, within financial or trading systems
• A strong technical background, with familiarity in backend systems, distributed architectures, and API-driven environments
• Proven experience in financial products requiring high speed and performance, such as stock exchanges, crypto exchanges, brokers or trading platforms, HFT trading systems
• Deep understanding of financial markets, market microstructure, and the trading industry
• Exceptional skills in strategic thinking, project management, and cross-functional collaboration, with a delivery-focused mindset
• Experience leading complex deployment planning, ideally in regulated environments
• Ability to guide and mentor technical teams while remaining an individual contributor without direct management responsibilities
